The Castle of Cans is a grassroots effort to help alleviate the problem of hunger in our area. It is the second largest food drive in Catawba County. In 2011, 8 tons of food were collected and even more is needed this year. The food is given to The Hickory Soup Kitchen, The Corner Table of Newton, CCM, ECCCM, The Family Care Center, The Salvation Army, Flynn Home, and Exodus Homes.
Food can be brought to the Castle of Cans site in the Kidsfest area of OktoberFest in downtown Hickory October 12-14.
Any canned food is welcomed, but the #10-sized cans used by restaurants are particularly helpful for the soup kitchen.
Please consider having your church or civic group participate by donating food to help the hungry in Catawba County and help build a Castle of Cans...a Castle of Caring.
