The Hickory Soup Kitchen is governed by a 30 member Board of Directors. Most of these members are from local supporting churches, with several members representing other areas of the City. These members meet monthly to review operations and take care of non-routine matters.
The daily operation of the soup kitchen is under the direction of the Interim Manager, Austin Pearce. The staff consists of a cook, three kitchen helpers, and a custodian. The soup kitchen could not function without its exceptional volunteers who come from churches, scout groups, civic groups, area businesses, and families. One volunteer arrives at 10:00 am and three more arrive at 11:00 am. The volunteers wrap silverware, fix drinks, help set up for lunch, and serve food from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. They help clean up afterwards.
In 2009, more than 1340 volunteer hours were donated serving our clients during our hours of operation. In addition, many hours were given promoting and staffing our fundraising events, attending board and committee meetings, and other activities.
